An official press release has gone out detailing a meeting to be held on October 22.

Plaquemines Parish will be making a formal appearance at a meeting held by the Justice Department on the State of Louisiana's proposed settlement with BP. Concerns arose that the settlement agreement reached by the State is inadequate.

Miles of interior marshlands owned by Plaquemines Parish have been severely contaminated due to the BP Spill. Not only that, thousands of acres have also been lost. Plaquemines Parish has spent millions of its own funds to combat this disaster. Unfortunately, these funds have not been addressed in the State's settlement.

Billions of dollars intended to address the disaster are being directed away from the Parish which is considered as the "Ground Zero" of the BP Spill. Instead, the funds are going to projects far outside of where the millions of gallons of crude oil have and will continue to wreak havoc on the shores of Louisiana.
